Irkutsk prepares 34 kindergartens and schools for the September start, with major repairs and upgrades slated for completion by September 1.

In the regional centre, kindergartens and schools are being renovated for the new school year. By September 1, 34 facilities are promised to be handed over.
Kindergarten No. 156 is the largest in the Topkinsky microdistrict, serving almost 450 children. The building is more than a quarter of a century old; it was scheduled for renovation in 2017, but a May hurricane damaged the roof, so the work started a year earlier.
— The storm passed, the slate fell off. A lot of sheets came down, so there was a risk of flooding, especially since summer is still outdoors. Therefore we immediately turned to the administration, — says the head of kindergarten No. 156, Larisa Kolesova.
Irkutsk Mayor Dmitry Berdnikov inspected the ongoing repair works in the city’s educational institutions today. In kindergarten No. 156, the contractor, as a gift, renovated the gazebos, and now they are starting to replace the heating system. The mayor noted the poor condition of the porch and ordered the steps to be repaired.
And this is another facility: the correctional kindergarten No. 100. In one of its buildings, a major renovation is underway, and on September 1 the “lekoteka” will open. This is a place where children with developmental disabilities will receive individual sessions.
— Sessions will be held weekly for free, and children aged 3 to 8 will be able to attend, — says the acting head of kindergarten No. 100 “Bereginya”, Anastasia Palamarchuk.
A major renovation is planned for 34 kindergartens and schools by the start of the school year.
— At the beginning of the year, from November to January, visual and technical inspections of educational organizations were carried out, and priorities were set based on significance, — says Alexander Kostin, head of Irkutsk’s Department of Education.
More than 200 million rubles have been allocated in the city budget for preparing schools and kindergartens for the new school year. Acceptance of the completed works will begin in early August.
