Nizhny Novgorod Governor Demands Year‑Round Upgrade of Pavlov Floating Bridge over Oka River

According to the information, during his visit to Pavlov Valery Shantsev drew attention to the pontoon bridge, which operates only six months a year. For the rest of the time, local residents explained, they cross to the opposite bank over the ice – at their own risk. In response, the governor demanded that the regional Ministry of Transport and the local administration ensure year‑round safe communication with the right‑bank part of Pavlov.

The announcement notes that the estimated cost of modernizing the existing floating bridge will be 20–30 million rubles. “Due to the limited budget of the Pavlovsky district, the regional government is allocating a subsidy of 6 million rubles from its reserve fund for the development of a project to build the quay walls of the Pavlov–Tumbotino crossing,” the press release states.

The bridge modernization will extend its operation to 10–11 months per year. During the bridge’s dismantling periods, which occur twice a year (in spring before the ice break‑up and in autumn when ice fragments appear), a cargo‑passenger ferry will operate. To facilitate motorists, a ferry quay will be constructed (planned cost – 17.1 million rubles).

NOTE:

The Pavlov–Tumbotino–Gorokhovets road is a regional public road owned by the oblast and is crossed by the Oka River. During navigation periods, the river crossing is carried out via a floating pontoon bridge. In the autumn‑winter and flood periods, the SP‑21 ferry crossing, owned by OJSC “MIZ named after Gorky,” is used.
